Join us to discover Royal Majesty at the Heart of Palma: The Royal Palace of La Almudaina. Step into centuries of regal splendour at Palau Reial de l’Almudaina, a living royal residence and historical treasure perched above the bay in Palma de Mallorca.

This iconic fortress-palace, with its striking blend of Gothic and Moorish architecture, offers visitors a unique journey through time, culture, and royalty.
Still an official residence of the Spanish royal family, La Almudaina opens its grand halls and tranquil courtyards to the public except, of course, for the private royal quarters. Wander through highlights such as the impressive Parade Ground, the serene Gothic Chapel of Santa Anna, the atmospheric Arab Baths from the Islamic period and stunning terraces offering sweeping views of Palma Bay.
Originally a Roman fort, La Almudaina was transformed into a Muslim alcázar and later reimagined by King James II of Majorca in 1309. The result is a majestic 14th-century palace with clearly defined spaces for the King, Queen, chapel, and court. The ground floor exhibits a medieval atmosphere with artworks from the 15th to 20th centuries, while the upper floor is Reserved for official royal ceremonies. It showcases period furniture and decorative arts from the 17th to 19th centuries.
Do not mis the Courtyard of Honour. Still used for official receptions, it features a white marble lion, a relic of the palace’s Islamic past or the Gothic Hall, a grand, solemn space once used to receive ambassadors. The Tower of the Angel is topped by a bronze statue of Archangel Gabriel, holding a cross and clad in a flowing tunic. You might wish to end your tour at the Outer Terrace, a perfect photo spot, with panoramic views of Palma’s seafront and Bellver Castle in the distance.
There is a small museum shop at the ticket office. There is no café in side but the vibrant heart of Palma is just steps away.
While advertised as accessible, please note that the palace’s historic layout involves many stairs and limited mobility access
