Come along to see the biggest museum of contemporary art in Switzerland at MAMCO, Geneva.

MAMCO or the Genevan Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain is Switzerland's biggest museum dedicated to the art of the past sixty years. Opened in 1994, the museum hosts a permanent collection that is being regularly topped up and it also arranges temporary exhibitions.
The museum has over 6000 pieces of art from the second half of the 20th century including the most recent from the first decades of the 3rd millennium. You can find interesting art on show all over the old industrial building, in the staircases, loos, on windows…. About a half of the works can also be seen on the MAMCO website thanks to the support of the national Loterie Romance and a private foundation.
The building also houses the Genevan Centre d’Art Contemporain and the other premises in the compound include artists’ workshops and exhibitions that you might wish to check after your MAMCO visit.
The museum is fully suited to handicapped visitors and those coming with a pram other than the lockers that are in the basement that is only accessible by stairs.
There used to be a café at the entrance but it has been closed for quite some time now. The tables and chairs are still there and the museum welcomes you to bring your own drinks and snacks for a break after your museum tour. They even have a coffee machine there for you! Don’t worry if you forgot your snacks, the museum is surrounded by lovely Genevois restaurants and cafés.
There is no cloakroom but in the basement, there is a really fancy room with lockers which, in fact, is modern art par excellence, unfortunately only accessible through stairs. If you come in a wheelchair, ask to leave you bag with the sales desk.
The loos are in the first floor and fully accessible with the same three lifts that take you to the four floors of the museum.
There is no real museum shop but you can buy a lot of books at the ticket desk
