Ars Electronica - Museum of the Future

Join us for a review of the future at the Ars Electronica, a museum that aims to review the impact of new techologies on our lives.

Ars Electronica was established in 1979 in order to look at how the fast development of technologies impact people. The Ars Electronica Centre was opened in 1996 as the Museum of the Future with a focus on navigating the future. It tries to explain the cultural and social challenges and the resulting creative opportunities.

One particular area of interest is artificial intelligence. The museum tries to look at the different aspects shaping the future: how do machines think, how do they learn and what distinguises people from machines? The exhibition also shows how neural networks are constructed and you can even tray to train them at a number of interactive stations!

"Global shift" is a another frequently used term at the museum. It is used to determine the age in which human actions have become the most significant factor for biological, geological and atmospheric changes - the museum provides a representative sample of the current conditions under which we all live.

In addition to the pure museum areas, there are several Ars Electronica Labs that you might wish to check, too. The CitizenLab examines the question of how to participate in the development; the second BodyLab takes you to the world of prosthetics; the MaterialLab experiments with many sorts of material, and the BioLab looks at the human organism. AI x Music is an exhibition about how artificial intelligence meets music - an interface of human creativity and technical perfection.

Do not forget to buy an extra ticket to the Deep Space 8K show - definitely worth your buck!

The museum is fully accessible with large lifts taking you to the upper floors and the basement. There is an accessible loo on the ground floor, on the right of the main entrance.

There is no real museum shop nor café - you need to return to the present day in the centre of Linz for a glass of wine after your visit to the future.
